Our Mission

Develop civic leaders and drive positive impact through community-engaged policy research.

PPI was founded on the idea that rigorous research in partnership with local communities drives effective policy. Rather than observing from afar, we are committed to grounding our work in the ideas and perspectives of residents, advocates, and local leaders in Southwestern Pennsylvania by making them active collaborators in our work.

We recognize the complicated and often tenuous relationships our partner communities have with policymakers and researchers. To fulfill our local commitment, our analysts are trained in culturally conscious communication and learn about the history of the communities they are working with. PPI analysts are also offered ample opportunity to develop policy research skills.

Through our community-centered research approach, we hope to inspire our analysts to become civic leaders at the local, national, and global level.
